Sacramental Program in the Claremont Parish
Over the last two weeks 24 Holy Rosary students have participated in our Sacramental Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
These students have attended sessions held on Thursday afternoons facilitated by Father Suresh, Mrs Libby Piesse and our wonderful parishioner Mrs Jenny Ploughman. The students have been joined by a family member who are also guiding the candidates on the Sacramental Journey.
We congratulate these candidates on the Celebration of Reconciliation which was celebrated on Friday 17th May at St Bernard's Catholic Church.
WHAT IS THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION?
The Sacrament of Penance also known as Reconciliation, Confession is the meeting point in which God forgives you all your sins, and reconciles you with the community.
WHAT ARE THE PARTS OF A CONFESSION ?
1. Conscience and Contrition
Confession begins with reflection, with an examination of conscience.
You think about what you have done that is bad and what good you have not done.
You are sorry. This feeling is called contrition. You intend not to make these mistakes again.
2. Confession
You go to the priest and greet each other.
You greet God with the sign of the cross.
Then you can start: Say when your last confession was! (Today is my first!!)
Tell your sins; you can also read from your notes.
Say when you are finished.
Say that you are sorry.
3. Absolution
After you confess, ask to receive absolution: "I ask God for forgiveness."
Now it is the priest's turn:
He will speak with you.
He will give you a penance to do later. then with Jesus' power he say:
... So I forgive you your sins,
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit....
You are free!
God has now forgiven you.
Between you and God it is as if you had never done anything bad.
You can start over again with your life.
4. Penance and Purpose of Amendment
Sometimes your penance is a prayer.
It can also be an instruction to make up for the hurt you caused, or do something else that is good.
Go home with a firm purpose to amend, do better.
